About the Role
We are seeking two experienced Senior Engineers to take a leading role in delivering a diverse range of civil engineering schemes. As part of our clients Civils Team, you will have the opportunity to work on a broad portfolio of projects, from small highway improvements to large-scale residential and commercial developments. Typical projects include designing a variety of access junctions as well as associated civil infrastructure.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the growth of a strategically important sector within our independent consultancy. Our client is currently delivering projects across both public and private sectors, ranging from small improvements to multi-million-pound multi-storey development sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide design expertise across a wide range of civil engineering projects.
- Ensure designs are delivered in line with current legislation, best practice, and client/local authority requirements.
- Deliver projects from concept development through to detailed design.
- Prepare drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, road alignments (vertical and horizontal), and access junction designs.
- Manage and deliver Section 278 and Section 184 detailed designs.
- Provide technical delivery support and mentor junior engineers.
- Produce technical reports and documentation to a high standard.
- Support project delivery, including monitoring budgets, timescales, and quality.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities.
- Support bid and fee proposal preparation where required.
About You
You will be an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong technical background and a proven track record in infrastructure design.
Essential skills and experience:
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 8 years’ post-graduate experience in civil/highway design.
- Proficient in road design (vertical and horizontal alignments).
- Strong knowledge of drainage design, strategies, and flood risk assessments.
- Experience in delivering Section 278 and 184 schemes.
- Knowledge of local authority and National Highways processes and requirements.
- Experience with national design standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, NRSWA, etc.).
- Familiarity with adoption agreements (S278, S38, S104) and associated legal processes.
- Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Vehicle Tracking, KeyLINES/SIGN/POST, Flow or MicroDrainage.
- Strong communication, organisation, and time management skills.
- Ability to mentor junior team members and support their development.
- Experience in managing tasks to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Chartered status (ICE, CIHT, CIWEM) or working towards it.
- Experience in public realm design, active travel and cycling schemes, or major highways.
- Utilities coordination and site supervision/monitoring experience.
- Ability to prepare fee proposals and support business development.
